This afternoon, the Acorns practiced their scissor skills. They first asked the big tree if they could borrow some leaves to make a “collage.” They practiced cutting slowlyyyyy the way scissors like to move. Cutting with scissors is a great way to strengthen fine motor skills, which will help them when it comes time to learn how to write.

Ms. Kim finds the most wonderful things in her garden and brings them in to share with the Oak class for our nature item. We have learned about Painted Lady butterflies, Tomato Hornworms and Anna’s Hummingbirds.

There are many fig beetles at nature school that fly and buzz around. Today Miss Alyssa and students in the Sprouts Class found the shedding of a fig beetle while exploring. They have beautiful, shiny green skin. Fig beetles will shed their skin often in order to grow bigger and bigger.
Since fig beetles only use their hind wings when flying, they can be very clumsy and fly into many objects in their path.
